Autumn 2017

Both the boys and girls teams had a great season. The girls won all the games in their group and had to play the runners-up of another group in the semi-final. Unfortunately that game was just a tad too difficult for them and this was the end of the line for them.
On the other hand the boys played great games all the way to the final, winning all their games. They played their neighbourly team Boher in the final in O’Connor Pk on Wed 18th   Oct. It was a great game and could have gone either way. Thankfully Tubber won by a few points in the end.
Captains Brian Buckley and Conor Fox made a lovely speech and thanked all involved in getting them there.

Autumn Games 2015

This was a great season for both the boys and girls teams. We played all our matches in good enough weather considering the time of year. Both teams played their hearts out in each game and had fun every time.

The Boys final took place on Tuesday 20th Nov, in St Brendan’s Pk, Birr, where the boys played Cloghan again for another great game. At half time the Tubber boys were up 1 point to a very strong Cloghan team. The boys, with the help of Ava, Maedbh, Martha and Annie played a fab second half and went on to win by 10 points. It was a great game and Captain Shane with his vice captain Pauric made a lovely speech in Irish and English. It was a late game so it was straight home to prepare for their trip to Lough Key the nest day.

The girls got to the final on Thursday 22nd Nov in O’Connor Pk against Rahan. The first half was very tight and at half time Tubber girls were up 1 point. Tubber went out in the second half with determination and a job to do and went on to win by 10 points. It was a fantastic win and Captain Ava with Vice Captain Maedbh made a lovely speech. A sincere thanks to all parents, supporters and Tubber GAA for all their help and support throughout the year. As always it is much appreciated.

Autumn Games 2014

Tubber Girls and Boys into the final.

What a great season for Tubber boys and girls. Both teams made it to the finals this Autumn. The girls final was in O’Connor Pk on Tue 21st Oct at 2 o’clock. The girls were all geared up to give their best shot. The girls were to play the Gaealscoil Tullamore and both teams wanted to win. We played a fab game and it was point for point all the way. Either team could have won and we were unlucky to have lost by 2 pts when the final whistle blew. The girls were devo but ….we’ll be back. Thanks to the female ref on the day for a very fair game and to all the organizers on the day.

Girls Final Team Autumn 2014.

The boys final was to be held in St Brendans Pk in Birr, which was a first for some of us. It turned out to be a lovely sunny day with a strong wind. The boys team with a few girls was ready for action. We were to play against Cloghan. This was the best game I had watched in ages. Both teams deserved to win this game. At the full time whistle it was a draw so we played another 5 min a side. After the first 5 we were 1pt down but after a good hard team talk we went out to claim the game….and we did. The boys with the well need help of a few girls wone the game well in the end. Every player gave 101% and deserved to win the game. Well done to the team.

Spring 2013

Tubber Girls vs Clonbollogue

Today was a lovely sunny day and a great day for football in Tubber. The girls were all set to play their second game this season. With Emily as captain she lead her team out onto the pitch. We started the game well and Tubber got the first score. Every score after that was well earned and we deserved more than we got. We were unlucky to be disallowed a goal and pt in the first half and these scores would have made a difference to the result. The girls played well but need to incorporate some of their drills into the next game. The game ended with 1-4 to both teams.

Tubber Boys Vs Rhode

The Tubber boys went in convey to Rhode  GAA this tuesday. The marched out onto the pitch with Callum as captain and played a terrific game from start to end. All boys got to play and show their skill. Rhode team put up a great fight but victory was to be Tubbers on the day and we won 4-9 to 7 pts. The next game for the boys is against Edinderry Gaelscol on Tuesday 16th in Tubber GAA.

Tubber Gals Vs Mucklagh     0-4

Today, a wet icy cold winters day the girls charged onto the pitch at Tubber GAA to play their first game of the Spring season. It was bitter cold with gaelforce winds. Claire captained the team. We lost the toss and ended up playing into a strong wind. The girls were scattered for the first few minuets but eventually found their feet and played a magnificent first half only conceeding 3 pts. The Mucklagh girls looked to be an older crew than ours but we gave them a good run for their money. We had a few close shots in the first half but it wasnt to be. At half time the girls got wateredf and took their place on the pitch again. Tubber uped the anti this half and only conceeded 1 pt. This was a great game and we were unlucky not to have scored. We took our chances but the forces of nature didnt help us for this game. I was very proud of all the girls as they never gave up. Unfortunately for us Shauna McGuinness played her last game for Tubber NS today and as usual she played a blinder and smiled her way through the Mucklagh forwards.. We would all like to wish Shauna, Cadhlá and all the McGuinness family every success in Dubai and we look forward to seeing them all again soon. Bon voyage mes chere.

Dates for next girls matches:

Autumn Games 2012

THE FINAL, O’CONNOR PARK

Tubber Vs Daingean 10th Nov 2012

It was a cold frosty and damp morning, but it wasn’t raining. This was a good sign. We had all cleaned our boots, readied our gloves, shorts and socks and prepared ourselves for the mighty challenge that was ahead of us. With a good healthy breakfast in us we set off to join up with the rest of the Girls Tubber.N.S football team to take our place on the O’Connor Park pitch in Tullamore for the Cumann na mBunscol Autumn final against Daingean. The team arrived in dribs and drabs but each one looking more determined than the next. We warmed up on the training pitch and then went into the changing rooms to get our jerseys. After a little pep chat and some last minute advice our captain Clodagh led us onto the pitch. In our first half we played with the very strong sun on our back. Tubber started the scoring process with a point and followed quickly with another point and a goal. But it wasn’t long before Daingean retaliated with a goal. After that it was one for one. We did well to finish the first half a few points ahead (score: 3:5 to 3:2). We took a few minutes breathing space and then got down to winning tactics. The girls were all playing fantastic so it was not a good idea to make too many changes but in order to give some of the subs a chance we made 2 or 3 changes. The game was too close to change during play. We started the second half looking shattered but soon woke up when Daingean got a goal. We knew we only had 20 minutes to claim our cup and we gave it everything we had. Right up until the last kick of the ball we fought hard and fair. Daingean footballers gave us the toughest game of our careers so far but in the end our skill, determination and super supporters got us the result we came to Tullamore to get. We left with the CUP. The tears of joy sprayed the grass in O’Connor Park when the referee blew the final whistle and the crowd (of about 100) roared with joy. The subs who had played their little hearts out in the lead up to this game ran onto the pitch to applaud their comrades. We had won the final. Immediately we were summoned to the stand to receive the cup and Clodagh Heavin gave a fabulous speech with her first 3 or 4 lines ás Ghaeilge and in the following lines she thanked Ms Dowd and all the parents and supports for their time, support and lifts throughout the years. It was a great honour to be a part of this team on Saturday 10th Nov 2012.

Tubber Girls Vs Geashill

This was the first game we got to play at home, and also the first time Geashill travelled to Tubber out of all our games against them. It was another mucky wet day and we scanned the pitch to find the driest and safest place to play. with theat we started the game with captain Annie Bracken leading the girls into victory once more. We played hard and all girls got to play and we gave it our best shot. In the end we had a good win and the result of this game gauranteed us a place in the Final against Daingean.

Tubber Girls Vs Walsh Island

This was a great game of football. We left Tubber school at 3 o’clock in a hail of torrential rain but as we neared our destination we drove into clearer skies. The girls went out for a warm up and the first kick of the ball knocked the upright of the goal…..what a start. After the starting names were called and a brief team talk the girls took their places on the pitch lead by their captain Lorna. We had a great start with a goal and a point in the first 2 min of the game. We fought off the consistent challenges of the opposition and proceeded to get the scores clocked up, at points the Islanders came close to our score but this made the Tubberians fight back harder. Once again all girls got to play and had great fun. Well done to all. Girls next match is at home to Geashill next Thursday at 3:15pm.

Tubber Boys Vs Rahan

This was another miserable wet Tuesday and the boys played at home again to Rahan. The pitch was very wet but the referee decided to let the game go ahead. Captain Matthew lead the team to their positions. Everyone played really well and with some help from Emily, Clodagh and Therese the lads only lost by a few scores. They have been very unlucky this season with the weather which hasn’t helped their game. Boys next match is in Boher next Tuesday.

Tubber Gals Vs Daingean

Last Thursday the Tubber Girls travelled the long journey to Daingean to play their first match. Conditions on the pitch were better than our last visit. The girl togged out, warmed up and took their positions on the battlefield lead by captain Annie. We had a few quick changes to the starting team due to a few broken fingers, absent players etc to contend with but the girls played their hearts out. We have a great team and with a bit more practice we will go far. In the first half of the game we had to play against the wind and we fell behind by points. In the second have we had the wind, we had 90% possession of the ball and kept the pressure on the Daingean backs for the entire half. Unfortunately our shots we not on target but if we were to count the Wides we would have won the game well. What a game, the girls played really well and all the girls got to play this game. We have a big panel of girls so only the 6th class are guaranteed a game. The next girls game is next Thursday in Walshe Island leaving the school at 2:50pm again.

Tubber Boys Vs Clonmacnoise

The football season has started all over again. Boys and girls have training on Mondays after school. We kicked off with the Boys playing in Tubber against Clonmacnoise on a wet, cold afternoon. Ian was captain and brought the team to their places. The Boys played a great game but in the mucky wet conditions they found it hard to get the scores in the first half. After half time the Tubber boys and Threse came back fighting and got some great scores but most importantly the defence line tightened up and prevented Clonmacnoise scoring in the second half. Unfortunately we didn’t get enough to catch up on the strong Clonmacnoise lads. All the boys got to play and everyone gave their best. Our next match is on Tuesday in Tubber against Rahan.

Well done all and thanks to the best supporters in Offaly/Westmeath for lifts and encouragement.

Spring Games 2012

These games started with a blast. We played Geashill in Geashill for our first game and won. It was a tough game and being the first of the season we had no idea what to expect. With Annie as captain and a starting team of Clodagh in goals, Kayla, Saoirse and Áine in backs we had the goal well defended from the get-go. Annie and Claire in midfield gave us ample opportunity to send the ball into Alannah, Dearbhla and Kayleigh on the forward line. A win was inevitable with both mid-fielders and forwards taking their scores when their chances came. This was the starting team and continued to line out like this for all the games.

Our second game was at home to Gortnamona and Kayla (Capt) lead the team out onto the pitch. Again the Tubber gals displayed great skill in this game and we started the secong half with a completely different line-up. Emily, Charlotte, Lorna, Rachel, Annie, Niamh, Kayleigh D, Therese, Laura and Aoife in Goals.

Our third game was away to Daingean and Alannah lead this team to glory with a number of graceful pts and goals herself. This was a tough game in pure muck. It had rained all week and was still raining during the game…..the ball wouldnt bounce and this was a different game than we had ever played. In the end we came through with flying colours and were topping the board with 6pts.

And the final game to lead us to the final was captained by Kayleigh when we played on home soil against Walshe Island. Once again the Captain took her scores and lead us to victory. All the girls play a great game and all the panel got to display their skills on the pitch. We have now topped the table and we shall meet the team in second place in O’Connor Park. Tubber Abú!!!

The Final…..Tubber Champions 2012

Girls Football Winners 2012

We started the cumhan na peil football in 4th class. We only had a small team at the time. The reason we started the football was because we went to the primary School sports in the tullamore harriers and none of the girls who did it were fit so mrs. Dowd decided to start up the football team. We started doing some small skills at first but then it progressed and we did some small games. In 4th class we lost all of our games. We didn’t even make it to the second round. But we kept doing drills and had great fun. Then in 5th class we were way better we practiced way harder and were way fitter. We were so good that we made it to the final but the ref was very unfair and we lost by only one point we were so upset and disappointed. We kept doing some challenge games and drills and kept our heads held high. Then we suddenly entered the 6th class and started the football earlier. We went into it with a bang. Everyone badly wanted to win the final. We won all the games and then we were in o Connor park once again. We trained super hard for our big game. Then the day arrived we stood behind the bagpipes and were very proud. Then the game started we kept our heads held up high the whole way. We got points and goals in seconds. Then we heard the half time whistle. We were winning at that time. Then some people were taken off and others put on. Then we heard the final whistle we had WON!!!!
We were so so happy. We got our wonderful plaque. We were super exited. We went to super mac’s after. We went home all full of excitement. We wouldn’t have won only thanks to Aidan king and mrs Dowd. Thank you 🙂

Autumn 2011 Games

Football notes:

Tubber Girls make it to the final once again….We play Rath in O’Connor Park on Saturday the 12th Nov at 3:45pm. This should be a great match and all support is very welcome. Come on the Gals!

Tubber Girls Vs Rath

This game is in Rath on Wednesday, leaving straight after school. How will it go……go on the gals!!!!

Well the was played in rain, wind and sleet and with a number of injuries on the Tubber team we ended up loosing this game by a few goals and points. But all is not lost as we have still made it to the final which is to be held in O’Connor Pk on Wed 26th Oct at 4:30pm. So Go on the Girls!!!!

Boys Spring 2012

The boys also lined out against Geashill in Geashill on the same day as the girls. They played hard but Mr Luck was not on their side and they lost the game. The next game was at home to Boher and this was a nail biting game that could have gone either way. The Final score left Tubber boys 1 pt down. What a game. Unfortunately this was the last game this season for the boys team.

Tubber Boys v Boher 4-16 to 3-13

The boys and Annie Boland had a great match today in Boher school. They boys stood out in their positions for their final match for this season. It was a damp, dull and misty afternoon. They all played their hearts out against a strong team from Bonher. With goals and points comming from all players we

The Tubber Boys Autumn 2011

soon had a 7pt lead going in at half time. Boher came out strong in the second half and soon made up the difference in score to take the lead for a while. But the Tubberians came back fighting and won the game in the final minutes with a lead of 1-3. Well done boys and thats the end of football games until the Spring season. Thanks to all the parents who helped and support the team. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go leir.

The team of 2011 in Boher.

Tubber V’s Rhode School

The Tubber boys went out in extreme heat to play against Rhode. They played their hearts out against a great team and came in at half time 2pts down. This was a tremendous achievement for the boys. With the start of the second half of the game Tubber made a great burst with 2 Goals in the first 5mins but Rhode were not to be moved from the lead and in the end after a great struggle Rhode won by 4pts. The boys from Rhode were a credit to their school and parents, they played a great game and were extremely polite and mannerly. We wish them the very best in the rest of their games. The boys next game is in Boher on the 4th Oct.

Tubber Gals V’s Walsh Island (5-7 to 2-2)

On home soil the girls in amber and black took to the pitch with sheer determination. The sun was splitting the stones and water was scarce in Tubber. But the girls got straight into the game from the start and stuck like gel to their opponents. We saw fantastic team work throughout the game and because of this the girls were leading at half time. The Walsh Island girls came out fighting in the second half and gave our girls a good run for their money. We won the game well with sheer delight and exhaustion…even those on the side line. The girls are a great team and play fantastically together. Their next game is in Rath against Rath next Wed 5th Oct.

Tubber Vs Geashill

As another year starts and we lose some players and we gain new players but we never know what the year will bring. Today the 14th Sept we started off with a girls match in Geashill against Geashill. We left the school at 3:10 and arrived at the pitch around 4 o’clock ready to give the game our best shot. Our toughest game last year was against this team so we tried to stay positive….we were going to have fun regardless. The starting team, all the 6th class girls, lined out and prepared for action. The ball went up and Tubber got first possession. The girls were fab, they stuck to their players like glue and fought hard for every ball. Clodagh did a great job in goal with great support from Kayla, Alannah and Áine. With Annie and Claire in mid field we kept control of the game and made sure the ball went the right direction. At half time the score did not portray how well the girls were playing. We truly were unfortunate that we had so many wides. The girls took every opportunity to score but it wasn’t to be. Tubber 3 pts to Geashill 2-6 was the half time score. At half time the girls were wrecked, never mind the parents on the sideline but they’d all live to fight another day. With a refreshed morale boost the girls took their places on the pitch again. Their look of sheer determination was hard to quell. This was a different game, the team had settled in and with a fantastic passing mechanism and accurate kicking the forward line, Kayleigh, Saoirse and Dearbhla put most balls over or under the bar. Fantastic work all round this gave Tubber the upper hand to finish the game with a 2 goal lead. We fought hard and never gave up, we turned the game around in the second half and every girl contributed fully to this fantabulous win. All girls got to play on the day. Subs were Emily, Charlotte, Lorna, Annie Br, Rachel, Niamh, Kayleigh and Terese. Well done to the Geashill girls, as this was a fantastic, nail biting game that could have gone either way. Tubber Abú!!!!

Girls football continues every Monday straight after school.

Girls Dates:

21 Sept: Girls …No game

28th Sept Girls play Walsh Island in Tubber

5th Oct Girls….play Rath in Rath

Tubber Vs Clonmacnoise

The Boys played their first match today against a very strong Clonmacnoise team. The Tubber boys faught hard but just couldnt get ahead. With only one sub verses a team with many subs it was hard to keep energy levels up. In the 2nd half of the game the Tubber boys put away some lovely scores with goals from Ian, Callum, Tómas and Kevin and points from Ian, Callum, Matthew, Kian and Tómas. The defence tactics from Aaron, Chad, Ronan and goalie Peter were fab but unfortunately the stronger team won in the end. Our next game is at home against Rhode and the date hasn’t been set yet. Well done lads.

Boys Games:

20th Sept….Clonmacnoise in Shannonbridge

27th Sept to be decided

4th Oct we play Boher in Boher

Spring 2011

Tubber Boys vs Bracknagh

Once again the boys in Amber and Black representing their school did us proud, they played a fantastic game of team football against a very strong Bracknagh team. With strong winds tearing across the pitch it did no favours for either side but alas the Tubber boys held their heads up look for the helping hand of the team mate and gave it their best shot to win well in the end. As always a fantastic team spirit. This leaves both the boys and girls football team in the Cumann na mBunscol final. This is a great achievement for Tubber footballers. Thanks to the parents for all their lifts and support throufghout the year and especially to James Farrell and Patrick Kealy for all their help. Also a big thanks to Trina Murray. Well don all.

Tubber Girls play Walshe Islands

Congrats to Tubber Girls football team who are through to the final after all their hard work throughout the year. They played a fantastic game at home against Walsh Island. It was a tough game from the start put they played hard and fast, and held their heads up to win through in the end. With fantastic defence from Amanda (Captain), Kathy and Grace in the first half and Áine Farrell in the second half they lightened the load for Amy our team goalie who made some wonderful saves. Claire King , Annie Boland and Aine O Connor covered the mid field section very well leaving very little ball for the Walsh Islanders. Lori Rickard , Clodagh Bradley, Saoirse Halpin did justice to the team in the forward line with great support from Aine Farrell in the first half as they popped scores into the net and over the bar. Emily Fielding, Kayleigh Cornally, Alannah Carey, Dearbhla O’Rielly, Kayla Gannon, Coldagh Heavin, all came on in the second half of the game to help out in all areas. All players had a fantastic game leading to their victory against the toughest team of the tournament so far, to the delight of their team mate and No 1 supported Áine Healy who usually plays mid field but due to injury could not play. Tubber Abú….all the way to O’Connor Park!!!!!

Tubber Girls vs Gortnamona

The girls footie team played a great away game against Gortnamona. With Amy in goal and our strong defence line, Kathy, Grace, Clodagh and Amanda, the Gortnamona girls struggled to score. Our midfielders Áine Healy, Dearbhla, Annie, Claire, Kayla and Aine O’Connor left no ball available to the opposition and sent them down to our ever waiting forwards Áine Farrell, Clodagh, Emily, Alannah, Kayleigh and Lori, to place it over the bar or in the net…….or even wide!!!! With great support from the parents on the sideline the girls made us all so proud on the day.

Tubber vs Geashill

Congrats to both the boys and girls football teams who played fantastic games last Wednesday afternoon, 30th March in Geashill. The girls played first with outstanding performances by everyone ….they stuck like gel to their opponents winning all the ball in the first half with a score of 3 goals and 2 pts to just 2pts. After their half time pep chat they went out to play hard for the next longgggg 25mins. At this point the sun came out to blind the defenders and the Geashil team worked hard to quash their deficit and even the score before the final whistle, leaving it at a draw for Tubber and Geashil. Well done to both teams who really played hard in a fantabulous game of football. Final score was Tubber 5 – 3 to geashil 3-7 (unfortunately goals were only worth 2pts). The girls will play their next game against Gortnamona in Mountbolus on Tue 5th April. So we wish them all the best.

The boys game started immediately after the girls. It started with a blast from a Tubber score in the first 30 seconds. The boys, as always fought hard for their win, never letting up. The game was a brilliant game of football against a well experienced Geashil team, who wanted to win as much as the Tubber boys. Unfortunately, their can only be one winner on the day and it was Tubber. While the score may reflect an easier game than we had, I can assure you it was no easy game and could have gone either way in the blink of an eye. The boys in black and amber won with a score of 7-7 to 3-3. Thanks to all the parents who provided lifts for both teams. Much appreciated.

TUBBER ABÚ!!!!

Tubber boys vs Daingean

The boys played their first game of the spring league against Daingean. As always they played with such enthusiasm, and well deserved their win. All boys on the panel got to play. Thanks for all the lifts from parents.

Well done boys.

Congrats to the Boys football team who won the Cumann na mBunscol final against Clonmacnoise in O’Connor park. The team played a fantastic game. The thrill of playing in O’Connor Park with its fab dressing rooms was too much to handle for the team initially and the lads and Áine took a while to realize they were actually playing the game and finished the first half 2 pts down….but with a reality check at half time they team pulled together and played a blinder for the second half. They shot point after point and conceded nothing for the rest of the game. They did us proud on the day, as they always do. It was an honor to be with the team on the day. Many thanks to James farrell and Paddy Kealy for all their help throughout the year so far.

A place in Croke Park:

Jamie Donohue and Áine O’Connor are entering the County schools skills championship to try for a part as the Offally representitive on the team to play in Croke Park for the All Ireland final. We wish the all the best.

Harry Cornally is entering the same competition for hurling skills. Best wishes to all.

Playing for Offaly…

This year Áine O’Connor and Claire King togged out for Offaly to play at half time during the Offally v Wexford national league match on 20th Feb in O’Connor Park. For the boys team James Kealy and Shane Moran also wore the Offaly shirts to play. Well done to all.
